Research On Endowment Of American World-class Universities

Fundraising is a big problem of affecting in the development of higher-education. The fact that funds are lacking due to developmental requirements of universities urges universities to raise more money through diversified channels. Endowment is also serves as one important way of universities' in building up the funds and it has improved and made great contributions to the development of American world-class universities. For the highest goal of Chinese "985 Project" universities is to build world-class universities, it has a theoretical and practical significance to analyze the endowment and its impact and role of American world-class universities.This thesis consists of three parts: the first part is focuses on in-depth case studies. Analysis the raising, management and operation of the American world-class universities' endowment, respectively from the University Endowment of American universities as a whole, private universities' endowment of American world-class universities and public universities'. The second part shall analyze the affection factors which facilitate the formation and development of American world-class universities' endowment from social cultural traditions, laws and regulations and the universities themselves. Thirdly, the main purpose of this research of American world-class universities is to find out the gap between Chinese "985 Project" universities and American world-class universities, and through which to find the cause and on this basis, draw on some experiences of American world-class universities and then give some constructive advice for our "985 Project" Universities. Through comparative analysis, we can find that there are some gaps between Chinese "985 Project" universities' endowment and that of the American world-class universities, but Chinese "985 Project " universities' endowment still has a lot of space to develop, which requires reconstruction of social donation culture , support of national policy and the constant efforts made by the universities themselves.
