Cooperative learning is one of teaching organized forms in class, which is used more and more widely in the world in these years. And it is also a kind of creative and effective teaching theory and strategy system. 70s in the 20th century, cooperative learning became a fashion in American educational field. Since 1990s, cooperative learning and group cooperation came into middle and primary schools in our country. However, it is not mature enough, and it lacks of systemic theories so that the development is limited in our country.The aim of the thesis is to promote the competence of English learning of the middle school students. We attempt to apply the cooperative learning strategy to English learning in the middle school classes. We try to find the answers of the following questions:Can CL be carried out in EFL classroom favorably?Can CL work in the procedure of experiment?Whether the attitudes of the students have generally changed or not?If the students had some attitudes changes, what were they? And what was the degree of their changes?There are lots of research materials about cooperative learning. We study and discuss them deep as possible as we can. It includes the definition of cooperative learning; how the cooperative learning worked in English classes; the evaluations and theoretical basis of cooperative learning. According to them, we give the hypothesis to find the answers to the above four. Measure the effect of this study, we employ questionnaires, interview and class observation to collect and analysis the data we get. Through the experiment, we know the strategy of cooperative learning can improve the interaction of affection/emotion among the students. The research emphasizes the autonomous effect in the course of learning. Group learning inspires the students' interest of learning. And the strategy of cooperative learning helps the student to get the achievement of English acquisition. The students can thus develop their self-esteem.However, this study is still limited. Teachers in the middle school should try to practice and summarize while their everyday teaching and learning, so that cooperative learning can be improved and used better and better in our English classes.
