Writing is the communicative competence of written language expression and information transmission,which is widely regarded as an essential skill of learning and communication.With the development of globalization,as an effective way for interaction among people,writing plays a more and more important role.However,for a long time in history,the study of language was concentrated on the spoken language and writing was always neglected.Much less time in school education is spent on writing in China, compared with the time spent on reading.Therefore,lots of problems exist in the current writing classes.In the hope of proving that the traditional mode of writing teaching should be altered,the author tries to apply the Interactive Writing Approach to the writing classes in a senior high school in China,to confirm that the Interactive Writing Approach is a rather more effective way in teaching English writing in current writing class.The writing class in which the Interactive Writing Approach is applied involves grouping,generating ideas,collecting information,drafting,revising,presenting and evaluating,which can take place both in and out of classroom.After dividing the students into several groups,the teacher assigns the writing tasks.Then,group members' ideas about the topic are generated and gathered.In the while-writing stage,students make drafts independently.After revising the drafts,there are peer-editing and individual conferences between teachers and students.Next,students need to rewrite.Finally,the step of teacher commenting comes.Errors and weaknesses of students are pointed out and the writing ability of students would be improved in this way.This thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction in which the role of writing in English teaching and the current situation of teaching English writing in senior high school are introduced.Meanwhile,this chapter gives a brief presentation about the purpose and significance of the research.In the second chapter,the Interactive Approach and different approaches(the Product Approach,the Process Approach and the Interactive Writing Approach)to English writing are reviewed.The third chapter is from theory to practice.An experiment was carried out in two classes from Jiangjin No.2 Middle School,so as to prove the Interactive Writing Approach applied in writing class could help to enhance the motivation of students through the interactive and dynamic writing process,increase effective input of English and improve the students' English writing ability.The next chapter is the results and discussions of the experiment and the final one is the conclusion of this thesis.
