Review the introduction and the development process of our country's compulsory education system,we may discover that in the modern times which the compulsory education system actually established and made certain progress in,particularly the blustery Republic of China period that the political power alternated frequently,there were many educational theoreticians and practitioners had already realized the importance of the compulsory education and was ambitious to promote its popularization. They simultaneously stressed that the compulsory education must be free,and then proposed many effective methods to raise the compulsory education funds based on the national society condition,which could guarantee the implementation of the free compulsory education.This text selects three most representative educationalists to do the preliminary research on their free compulsory education thoughts which based on their theories and practices.Besides affirming their history contributions,I hope that the experience and lessons of their thoughts can guide us on the propaganda,the implementation and the consummation of the free compulsory education policy now.There are four parts in the main body of the paper.The first part,introduce the implementation history of the free compulsory education overseas and the free compulsory education thoughts which peeped in the late Qing dynasty in China,and then provide a brief account of the social conditions of the free compulsory education thoughts' development in the Republic of China.The second part,take three well-known educationalists as examples in the Republic of China,introduce separately their free compulsory education thoughts,then compare the similarities and differences of their thoughts,and give simple causes.The third part,induce the nature and the features of these three persons' free compulsory education thoughts.The fourth part,analyze the influences that their free compulsory education thoughts had on the education of the modern china,make brief appraisal,and then elaborate the implication that the educationalists' free compulsory education thoughts in the Republic of China give to the free compulsory education policy nowadays,and expect that it will have a benefit to the implementation of the free compulsory education policy for our country.
