Traditional private school was a main type of non-governmental basic education in Chinese traditional society.With central plains culture propagating southward,traditional private school came into being in present Guizhou region from Han Dynasty.That ShengLan run a school in present north region of Guizhou is the proof of the origin of Guizhou. Traditional private school,and from then on it developed gradually in Guizhou.With the development of economic and the increasion of population,traditional private school expanded to national minority villiages from big citys which were full of Han ethnic group gradually. After setting up provinces in Ming Dynasty,traditional private school became a parallel education type with regional offical school in Guizhou, which is to Kang Yong Qian Heyday.At the end of Qing Dynasty,faced the strong strike of modern western civilization,China was compelled to transform traditional times to modern times.To save racial crisis,lots of modern schools were set up and the modern education began.Malpractice of traditional private school exposed gradually,which was not adaptable to the society development.Faced with the two difficulties,funds and teachers,after the New Policy at the end of Qing Dynasty,the government turned to non-government private schools existed.At the end of Qing Dynasty,the improvement of the traditional private school in Guizhou centralize on teaching contents and training on teachers.However,the effect of the improvement of traditional private school in Guizhou was not satisfied during this time.Compared with central plains and neighbour provinces,its improvement displayed features of much more resistence and much slower progress,and existed the limitation that the non-governmental promotion was not enough and the improvement was superficial.The main reasons were that traditional private school had tenacious vitality under the effection of tradition society,the power of new education was far from strong,and the government propel it without strength.But to evaluate the improvement of the traditional private school objectively,it motived,to some point, modern elementary education development in Guizhou and the transformation of tradition education system.Meanwhile,that traditional private school attached much importance to traditional culture,its contribution to universal education and its humane education spirit are all deserved us to study seriously.By studying the improvement of the traditional private school in Guizhou,we can know about the general situation of elementary education at the beginning of Guizhou education modernization.At the same time,it enlightens,to some degree,the fundamental education reform in progress at present.
