Study On Undergraduate Research At Chinese Research Universities

In the 21^st century era of knowledge economy, increasing the quality of higher education and training creative talents has become the focus of the governments and higher education departments of all countries. The common feature of research universities in the world is based on the undergraduate education to foster and cultivate talents, whose inspiration of scientific research is drawn to produce new scientific research energy. Taking part in undergraduate research is a useful way of fostering innovating ability, research and practice ability for undergraduates, and it's also one of necessary methods for achieving the target of higher education.This thesis defines two concepts: research universities and undergraduate research, and explains related theories first of all, then it analyses the necessity and feasibility of undergraduate research at Chinese research universities. Then this thesis analyses the current situation and problems existing in undergraduate research at Chinese research universities by combing the practice of undergraduate research at Zhejiang University. According to analysis on current situation of undergraduate research at Chinese research universities and the successful experience and insuring systems of undergraduate research at American research universities, the thesis builds on a set of model of undergraduate research at Chinese research universities and also states the basic frame of the model. Finally, the thesis systematically probes into the supporting and insuring system of the model, such as renewing the education conception, supporting material resources, strengthening the building of the team of the tutors, improving the management system and so on.
