Nowadays, with the quick development of technology, more and more people who master English well are needed in society. Because the quality education is advocated strongly, the foreign language teaching lays more emphasis on training the students'abilities of hearing, speaking, reading and writing. English reading instruction is an activity which is used most frequently in the use of English language, a most important means by which people obtain information and a most effective approach to improving students'English levels. So many teachers regard reading instruction as the most important aspect in the teaching of English Language. But although reading occupies much more time and teachers and students make greater efforts, the result is not satisfactory. In such an environment, to improve students'reading ability becomes unprecedentedly important.Since the 1980's, the word"task"has been used in the rang of linguistics, and task-based teaching approach has been accepted by more people. Task-based approach emphasizes"learning in the process of doing things", and"using the language to do the things"is its central part. Task-based Language Teaching which uses task as a teaching method can create a supporting condition favorable to catalyze learners natural and meaningful language use. The New National Criterion for English Course (Department of Education, 2003) clearly advocates using this teaching approach, and teaching materials based on this criterion also include studying tasks. However, advocating is one thing, implementing is another thing. In the reading practice, there exist some confused ideas about the model of the teaching of reading using Task-based Language Teaching, and traditional PPP methods are still popular. On this condition, the author put forward her own application plan about using Task-based Language Teaching in the reading class, attempting to carry out the exposition of substantial evidence about Task-based Language Teaching in reading from both theory and practice. There are five chapters in this thesis. Chapter One is the literature review about the teaching of reading and Task-based Language Teaching theory. At first this part reviews the basic theory about reading teaching. English reading teaching has been a subject of great topical interest so far. Many people are interested in it, and have done many researches. But the author thinks that their researches still can't efficiently cultivate the students'ability of reading or arouse their interest or enthusiasm in English reading. Besides, the author also reviews the theoretical bases of Task-based Language Teaching in detail, including definitions of task, the components of task, the types of task, theoretical basis of Task-based Language Teaching and principles of Task-based Language Teaching. The author also introduces implementing Task-based language instruction, which makes preparations for the next operation on Task-based Language Teaching in reading.Chapter Two involves experimental implementation about Task-based Language Teaching in reading class. The author collected the data of the two tests in the course of the experiment, and carried on detailed analysis for the data. Through contrasting, it has been proved to be effective that Task-based Approach is used in the teaching of reading. This approach can activate the students'enthusiasm and interest about reading and make them form the habit of independent study and cooperative study.Chapter Three focuses on the validity during the application of Task-based Language Teaching in reading class in Senior High School. It explains its advantages compared with traditional PPP methods. In Chapter Four the author analyses some existing issues about Task-based Language Teaching, and brings forward the approach to solving them.Because of the author's limited level, the problems about the application of Task-based Language Teaching in English reading of senior high schools remain to be further proved and discussed.
