Professional identity of teachers means a teacher's perception, understanding, acceptance and realization on "What kind of teacher one should be?", "What is the image of a teacher?" and "Whether I am becoming such a teacher?" In China, there are gaps between city and village in politics, economic and culture, and it is useful to study on the difference of professional identity of teachers between city and village under the background of planning city and village. The study can also complete the theoretical knowledge for the theory system of professional identity and enrich the research results of professional identity in the field of faculty development. Furthermore, it can give the support of theory and practice for development of urban and rural areas teacher resources, offer some advice for all the middle and primary school educational administrations for reference. The study supplies some suggestion for some laws, regulations and policies made by relevant departments. The paper helps the teachers of middle and primary schools see their profession correct and improve themselves steady, healthy and harmoniously along with the way of "theory-practice-theory".Through the questionnaire survey and interview the author found:The middle and primary school teachers have not clear professional identity. They are dissatisfied in material gains and social recognition which have effected their emotion and work. While the professional identity of city middle and primary school teachers is better than that of village, its identities of all dimensions overtop that of village except the occupational development dimension, which is effected by the whole society and its economical background. Moreover, such rural-urban differences are still reflected in gender, age, education background, professional title, teaching age and whether taking the post of clerical work.The result shows that the professional identity of middle and primary school is not very well and the urban and rural have big differences in many aspects. We should take steps in three aspects of teachers, management and society to bridge the gap in professional identity of middle and primary school teachers between urban and rural, and realize the whole improvement of middle and primary school teachers'professional identity.
