The quality of teaching is the key point to improve the students'quality which is emphasized at present world widely, and the teacher plays as a guide, a monitor during the teaching process thoroughly. Moreover, instructional supervision is viewed as the essential point for promoting teaching and teachers'quality of school. The emergence and development of educational supervision were so late in China, however. While America has a long history development and fine theory system for instructional supervision, which featured its educational supervision system best. So our exploration for the practice of instructional supervision in American elementary and secondary school is full of meaning.Based on the theories of educational organization, administration and professional development of teachers, this paper focused on the practice, development, features and tendency of instructional supervision in American school, and used the method of literature and comparison. In addition, this paper discussed the status of educational supervision in China, promoted advices benefit ours. As the conclusions of this study, it's essential to focus on the instructional supervision in detail in school teachings, but not the policies. Moreover, it's significant to provide professional guidance for teachers'development.
