A Study On The EPCIMS-based Project Resource Management Information Platform (PRMIP)

In recent years, along with the economy globalization and the emerging political, economic, social and technological developments, the construction industry has encountered increasing competitive pressure. Due to the long construction period, numerous involved parties, complicated techniques and geographical disperse, construction projects are generally faced with the problem of inefficient management, especially of the inefficient resource management. The ineffectiveness of construction resource management will not only directly increase much unnecessary cost, but also affect the quality and schedule of construction projects indirectly.Based on lots of domestic and international references, combining modern management methods, such as Integrated Management, Third Party Logistics, Virtual Organization, etc., with Information and Communication Technology (ICT), this thesis proposes an EPCIMS (Engineering Projects Contemporary Integrated Management Systems)-based Project Resource Management Information Platform (PRMIP). By establishing the integrated information database of all the phases of the construction projects (decision-making, designing, contracting, building, checking, evaluating and maintaining), PRMIP provides a virtual organization environment for all the parties in construction industry to create the effective communication to enable the sharing, interchanging and integrating of the project resource information. PRMIP also founds the effective construction resource management mechanism to realize the reduction of resource waste, the maintenance of scheduling, the quality and the efficiency improvement.Firstly, the thesis introduces EPCIMS, the foundation of PRMIP, and defines the concept of PRMIP. Then it analyzes the whole system of PRMIP and its background, discusses the virtual organization environment of PRMIP and presents the technology frame of PRMIP. Finally, this thesis provides the research about the implementation of PRMIP in T construction Corporation.EPCIMS-based PRMIP is a new concept. By studying on the execution of PRMIP in the construction industry, the thesis wants to present a new way to think about the resource management and construction information while the reformation of the construction industry in China was done, and to enhance the economic benefits and competitiveness of the whole construction industry.
