| Objective:Observe the effect of Lu Eight Brocades in the treatment of Fibromyalgia Syndrome and explore the advantage of this kind of non-pharmacotherapy. Thus providing theoretical and clinical basis for futher study.Methods:44 patients with FMS were randomly divided into 2 groups including Lu Eight Brocades exercise group (LEB, n=22) and control group (C, n=22).At the beginning of the clinical trial, all the patients participated in the patient education lasting for one day. The standard of classification, symptoms, pathogenesis and chronic pain solutions of FMS were explained to the patients. During the 12-week intervene course, the LEB group came to the hospital for Lu Eight Brocades exercise twice a week and every exercise last for 60 minutes. At the first class, the traditional Chinese medicine theory of Lu Eight Brocades was explained. The movement and breathing method were taught in later classes. The eight movements include Holding the hands high with palms up to circulate the Chi, Draw the bow to the left and right, Separating Heaven and Earth:Raise one arm to regulate digestion, Moving the hands forward, and down the back and legs to generate tonics, Looking backwards to cure fatigue and distress, Twisting the head to relieve stress, Single hand moving foot up and down:a seesaw, and Raising and dropping heels to dissipate diseases. The LEB group were provided with teaching video and asked to exercise Lu Eight Brocades 30 minutes everyday at home. Meanwhile, the control group kept the previous treatment. We used Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the number of tender points pre and post treatment to evaluate the improvement of symptoms such as pain, sleeping problem and depression etc. And then we evaluated the overall effect of the method. At the same time, safety tests were done to make sure if there were potential side effects.SPSS20.0 were used for statistical process, and two-sided test was applied. P<0.05 was considered a statistical significant difference. Measurement data was tested with T test while enumeration data was tested with chi-square test. Results:There were no significant differences between LEB group and the control group pretreatment. After the intervention, there were significant differences between the two groups in changes of the scores of FIQ, NRS, PSQI and the number of tender points at 4th week and the scores of BDI, PSS in 8th week. And all the changes continued to 12th week significantly. After the intervention, There were significant differences between the LEB group and the control group in terms of the number of tender points at 4th week, the scores of FIQ, NRS at 8th week, and the scores of BDI, PSS at 12th week, which all continued to 12th week. But there was no significant difference in PSQI score between the two groups after the intervention. When we compare the scores pretreatment and posttreatment in each group at 4th,8th and 12th week, it’s obvious that the LEB group made great improving while the control group stayed still. There was no side effect during the intervention. Conclusion:Lu Eight Brocades can significantly improve the symptoms of FMS patients including pain, sleeping disorder, depression etc. Thus enhancing their living quality. It can be an effective non-pharmacotherapy for FMS. |
