ObjectiveUlcerative Colitis (UC) is a kind of chronic disease, its pathogeny is remain unknown, and its pathological characteristics are mostly focused on the mucosa and submucosa inflammation of the large intestine (the colon or rectum). The main symptoms of UC are mucosanguineous feces、diarrhoea、bellyache、tenesmus, etc. UC is easy to trigger a relapse and difficult to recover after persistent treatment, meanwhile, it still related to occur the colon cancer, UC has been regarded as one of refractory diseases by the World Health Organisation. Under the syndrome differentiation and the whole idea guidance, the Chinese medicine combined different syndromes and different diseases, and got good effect on treating UC these years, which has her own particular strengths on reducing recurrence and raising cure rate. To evaluate the treatment efficacy of sequential therapy by periods and to investigate the better treatment effect on reducing recurrence of UC through Chinese medicine. The research group worked out the treatment plan of sequential therapy by periods for those patients who has UC features of pathogenesis and characterization combining with syndrome differentiation idea. In active period, the main treatment method is to dispel pathogenic, remove dampness, eliminate stagnation with spleen Qi and heat antidotes. At relieving stage, the treatment plan should mainly emphasize on promoting spleen Qi as a supplement to eliminating the pathogenic, it’s the combination treatment from essence of disease to appearance of it. This research project intends to evaluate the treatment effect of Chinese medicine sequential therapy, in order to look for the much better treatment methods to prevent the recurrence of UC by Chinese medicine.MethodsTo observe the research effectiveness of sequential therapy through studying UC rats models which got by immunologic compounding method. The UC rats models were divided into five groups randomly:Normal Group、Model Group、5-ASA Group、Spleen Qi & Heat Antidotes Group、Sequential Therapy Group. Getting the research materials from UC rats models from different groups respectively before medical intervention, and after medical intervention 2 weeks later, weeks later. The main research contents are:① The normal overall observation of rats, to evaluate the Disease Activity Index(DAI);② To observe the rats’common colon form, to evaluate the Colon Macroscopic Damage Index (CMDI);③ To evaluate the colonic structure histopathologic index(Geboes).Results5-ASA Group and Sequential Therapy Group(heat antidotes and toxicity clearing are focused,) are better than Spleen Qi & Heat Antidotes Group(only and no focus) during the active period. At relieving stage, Spleen Qi & Heat Antidotes Group is much better than other groups. During the whole treatment process, Sequential Therapy Group win out over 5-ASA Group and Spleen Qi & Heat Antidotes Group. It is proven that using the sequential therapy treatments which focus on clearing heat -toxicity in the active period and focus on spleen Qi promoting at the relieving stage are the best solution to treat UC disease.Conclusions1 The inflammatory damage always exists along the whole UC disease, it’s much more seriously in active period compare with it is at the relieving stage.2 For Chinese medicine treatment, its effects are different at different stages. Heat antidotes and toxicity clearing treatment in active period has better effect than others, spleen Qi promoting treatment at relieving stage has better effect than others. It’s convinced that the feature of Chinese medicine pathogenesis for UC disease which is mostly expressed dampness and heating in the active period but spleen deficiency performance together with at the relieving stage is correct.3 To summarize the whole research, we got that the sequential therapy shows the great advantage of Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation method. It is proven that the method of focusing on heat antidotes and toxicity clearing in the active period and focusing on promoting spleen Qi at the relieving stage is the best choice during the whole UC disease treating process. The result is still consistent with the pathogenesis development of UC disease no matter from the whole idea or from the dynamic changes regulations, that is the spleen deficiency is the key factor to cause the incidence of UC, dampness and heat are the performance of UC disease. This just shows the syndrome differentiation’s superiority of our Chinese medicine.
