Learning Motivation is one of the most important affective factors in second language learning and plays the key role on the study result, Learning motivation gets the general attention in the research field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language due to the promotion of teaching concept "teaching body is learner" and emphasis of learners’ individual difference. With the increasing "Chinese Popular" globally, more and more African students come to China for learning Chinese, But not so many study have been done for these specified African students, therefore, to study and explore the learning motivation on this specific group will have practical reference to some extend on the Chinese teaching respectively and it helps to realization of "Different teaching methods to different pupils".On the basis of the relevant research findings and others former motivation questionnaires as reference,"Questionnaire of learning Chinese motivation to African students in China" is designed by myself. total402African students from8universities in Jiangsu,3universities in Shanghai have been tested, this investigation mainly focus on:the type of learning Chinese motivation, the relationship between type of motivation and different factors and the correlation analysis between HSK level and the type of motivation. the results are as following:1. African students’ type of learning Chinese motivation can be divided into Intrinsic Interesting motivation, Achievement motivation, Communication Integrative motivation, Learning Situation motivation, Extrinsic Pressure motivation, and Instrumental motivation.2. Students’ type of learning motivation differ from each other according to their different ages, areas, majors, types of learning, tuition fee, beginning ages, study hours in China, many reach significant difference level or above.3. Significant positive correlation exists in the aspect of learning situation motivation and HSK level among the African students for learning Chinese. But negative correlation exists for other four types:Intrinsic Interesting motivation, Achievement motivation, Extrinsic Pressure motivation and Instrumental motivation. Communication Integrative motivation has positive correlation with HSK result.Suggestions on teaching Chinese to foreigners are proposed also based on the analytical results.
