On The Relationship Between Material Techniques And Individualized Painting Language Of Oil Painters

In the west, oil painting has a long history as one kind of important western paintings. Until the20th century, oil painting boarded the stage of Chinese art officially by a group of overseas returnees’ hard work. They import all important painting theories including perspective, anatomy, composition and chromatology but the equally important ones, material technique of painting during the period, which leaves far behind.Viewed from macro angle, material technique plays the significant role in the development of painting and it is also accompanied even driven the entire painting history. From microscopic, material technique carries the spirit and language of a painter. Painter must have some acquaintance with the rule of materials technique as well as the nature of materials and the evolution of techniques at first so that they can form personalized language of painting successfully. Therefore, the problem of material technique shouldn’t be neglected.This thesis, starting from the microscopic point of view, focus on the relationship between material technique and personalized language of painting, including the evolution of material technique, the study of oil painting’s basic materials, analysis and comparison of typical cases in each period. I want to find the clear connect between the both and make up the missed lesson by the study. I hope I can explore my own way of painting in the end.
