The Russian accordion composer and performer Vladislav Andreyevich Zolotaryov can be regarded as a legendary figure in the history of development of the modern accordion music. He is very talented with not only highly skilled playing techniques but also his musical creations respected by the enthusiasts of accordion all over the world. There is even an accordion competition named after him. Zolotaryov’s musical creations involve very diverse genres. Every work demonstrates his unique understandings of accordion.The six pieces of Children’s Suite took Zolotaryov seven years to create, the longest among all his works, which ranged from the first piece when he created in his early life to the sixth piece when he created one year before he passed away. Specifically, the fifth piece of Children’s Suite, among the six pieces, marks a turning point in his styles of creation. This work expresses depressive and intensive musical moods, different from the previous four pieces that manifests happy and lively styles. By analyzing Children’s Suite No.5, Zolotaryov’s styles of creation and characteristics of performance can be understood, and his personal feelings during the processes of creation can be experienced.This paper analyzes the music styles and the characteristics of creation of Children’s Suite No.5based on its background of creation. Several key points worth paying attention to in performing the work are also suggested. It mainly consists of three chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces the life of Zolotaryov, his overall music features, and the background of creation of Children’s Suite No.5. The second chapter analyzes the structures and characteristics of Children’s Suite No.5based on the musical analysis of the work. The third chapter explores several playing techniques of the work. It is hoped that this paper could serve as a reference and benefit those enthusiasts of accordion who are studying Children’s Suite No.5in both the theories behind the work and practical performances.
