There are many classic works focus on the subject of lotus flowers in Chinese painting history. On the basis of inheriting the good traditions, the lotus painters present their emotional expression and artistic thinking through creating. Bada Shanren Zhu Da, one of the four monks in Qing dynasty, is one of the artists.The writer divides his works into three periods:in the first period, he was a monk from1648to1680. During the second period, he was holding a paradox between1681and1684. Within third period, he raised to the peak of artistic attainments by1705.Through analysing and exploring these times, The writer will summarize the typical ways of painting lotus and recount her inner world by the most distinct artistic language as well. One of the most important points of the development of arts is that: With lots of research and analysis and exploration about inheritation and changes of Ba Da Shanren, the writer is able to innovate on the basis of existing painting styles and finally explore the most unique and proper style for herself. After going through the great changes of his family-country, Bada Shanren is pressured to be a monk to study deep meditation and give sermons. Even though he left the Buddhism at last, his concept of Buddhism still remained unchanged. Therefore, he penatrated the Buddhism ideas and the feelings of a adherent of a former dynasty in his paintings of flowers and birds.His works expressed his inner depression and anger through a wide range of subjects such as a battered nation and the white of the eyes of fish or birds. These works are always strongly personal.His lotus works keeps a large share of the same subject.He left a mass of research directions in painting beautiful lotus. Here, the writer sums up Ba Da Shanren’s lotus subjects.In this paper, there are four chapters. The first is an introduction. The other three chapters in the main body are:The second chapter mainly elaborates the forming process of the complex between Ba Da Shanren and his lotussubject.The third chapter mainly analyzes the formation causes of Ba Da Shanren’s lotus painting style characteristics.The fourth chapter expounds the status of Ba Da Shanren’s personal lotus painting style and the lasting impression on later paintings.The last part is a summary about the whole text.
