Network Ethics Anomie And Value Construction

The internet has not only provided efficient ways of working and enormous information, but also created a virtual world where people can communicate freely. The development of it breaks the limit of space, but also brings negative impact to the traditional moral and virtue. Internet grew as a result of scientific and technological development, and as is known to all, science and technology is a double-edged sword. Therefore, on one hand, the internet has been a driven force of social advancement and development, but on the other hand, it is to blame for the prevalent problems of the society like fake news and internet fraud. Such problems are on the top list of issues that need to be solved immediately."Internet Ethics" are principles that are adopted to regulate interaction among people through internet. The wide spread and rapid development of network technology has brought about an increasing amount of problems like fraud, rumor, and what can be done to solve them, in other words, how to avoid the degeneration of online ethics, is the main topic of this thesis.As the internet technology continues to develop rapidly, new things like online forum, blog, Weibo and Wechat have emerged. However, legislation fails to keep pace with it, and therefore, crimes are committed by making use of the loopholes in the law. For laws in the real world cannot regulate the behaviors done online, many people mistakenly believe that they can do online what are forbidden in the real world. Freedom of speech should be based on laws and regulations, and must be done by following rules, social orders and moral standards. But what should be done to avoid rumor, which will inevitably emerge with speech? Solving this problem has become increasingly urgent for the freedom speech is developing rapidly. In our country, people’s right to freely express themselves is protected by laws, but it has surpassed the range of laws on the internet. On the internet, freedom of speech has been distorted and utilized to attack others without considering basic moral standards. In addition to violating others’ rights, the online rumor and slander has also caused damage in the network order and online space. Thus, our country should enhance laws on online behaviors and arouse moral awareness.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part is introduction, which gives information about the research background and studies on internet ethics. And the second part will describe the basic theories of internet ethics and its relationship with ethics in the real world, illustrating the basic theory of internet ethics study and the relation between internet and actual ethics. The degeneration of internet ethics will be discussed in the third part. And it also points out the main reasons for it including online honesty crisis, personality alienation, confused online values and cyber infringement, and will give an in-depth analysis from the perspective of ethics. The fourth part will explain the reasons for the degeneration of internet ethics from three aspects:analyzing the technical reasons from inside internet system at first, and secondly explaining from the netizens’decreasing awareness of morality and economic reasons, and thirdly analyzing the incomplete morality and law systems, and at last discussing dual ethical and moral standards in network society and real society. The fifth part of the thesis gives suggestions on solutions to degeneration of ethics and the construction of cyber ethics system, and it also points out four aspects that should be noticed to do it. The first is to make sure the basic principles of the construction of the internet ethics system; the second is to correct the moral mistakes and values of citizens; the third is to maintain an organized online environment through laws and regulations; the fourth is to shield the false information by means of technology and the last is to upgrade the overall moral standards of netizens. The author of this thesis holds the opinion that the real-name registration system should be used, network legislation be perfected and law enforcement be intensified, which can help strengthen moral education of netizens and build up their right values so as to realize the fundamental purpose of removing the degeneration of internet ethics.The age of information has brought about the issue of internet ethics, and the plight of internet ethics has given rise to the research on it. The online society is currently in a situation where the old standards are damaged but new rules fail to keep pace with it. Actually, online and real worlds are not separate but closely related, with online society being a part of the realistic society. Therefore, moral standards that can be used in the reality can also be adopted on the internet. The key to preventing the degeneration of internet ethics is to construct the moral and value system of netizens, and the key to the construction is to establish correct view of life, of morality and of value. People play the dominant role in the construction of value, one should be his own supervisor, and respect each other, only when these principles are obeyed can an online community with overall development, high moral standards and harmony be built.
