Urban Geography Of Ordos Plateau And Its Adjacent Areas At The Beginning Of The 21st Century

The historical urban geography is an important branch academics of the historical geography, studying the regulation of the city rise,development and evolution. From11to13Century, Erdos Plateau and the nearby district are in control of the Western Xia regime, while the southeastern and eastern are in control of the North Song dynasty and Empire Liao. In the confrontation, every regime manage each district by setting up different administrative centers, so it is important for studying the historical urban geography to explore the reason and feature of this district city’s rise and decline. This thesis starts the discusion by choosing the cities of Erdos Plateau and the nearby district from11to13Century as investigated target, in order to provide a historical reference to the transformation and development of the regional cities and economic.This paper includes four chapters besides the prefaceThe introduction part in this article mainly has contents of three aspects, has discussed the research significance of this topic, the related academic progress and the main research contents and scope of the study area and natural geographical environment, etc.The first chapter mainly study Xixia city research district near the capital city and its nearby urban development in the research area. This chapter mainly discusses the geographical foundation of rise and development of the Xixia city, the space layout, scale size and city shape, etc, the research suggests the main reason for building Xingqing city is Ningxia Plain population gathering, internal space layout and shape of capital city not only affected by Chang’an city Tang Dynasty, but also building style of the Tongwancheng of Xia Dynasty, capital scale is not a "Yinchuan old city", larger scale than this.for the need for capital security during this period, in Ningxia Plain region, centered on capital city Xingqing along the yellow city to form a defense belt from east to west.Chapter two is to recover the city status that under control from different regimes, emphasis on some cities’ geographical location, which fill the gap in relevant research. Like Heqingjun city、Jinsuzhou city, the research consider that the Heqingjun of the Liao Dynasty is located in the north of the Zhungeer Qi, following the Hebin city of the Tang Dynasty, Jin Su should be located in the south of Liugou,which can not be judged as Liugou city.Chapter three is to research the urban internal space layout. On the whole, the shape of regional cities had been mainly built with square from11th century to13th century,which had single shape and single ciity. To be specific,there are less rules for the location of the government office of the areas within the jurisdiction of the Western Xia, which limited by historical data. In the jurisdiction city of Liao and Jin, the government office areas are mostly in the north of the city. The distribution of the manual workshop is avoided by the city center. But in the Northern Song, states cities’ shapes are composite and irregular.Chapter four analyze not noly the rise and decline development factors of the cities in study area but also the current situation of the preservation of the ruins of ancient city systematically. The research suggests that in addition to being restricted by natural conditions such as terrain, water, the cities in study area still have close relationship with the prevailing politics, military, transportation and other factors. At the same time, basing on the field visit, the neglect of protecting the ruins of ancient city is the main problem, such as the lack of corresponding signboard, the city walls and building remains are destroyed seriously without the protection and so on.The studying of the area city development at the initial of11th to13th century has a great influence on the later city’s development. Such as Ningxia plain, the urban pattern of the period have laid the fundation for the city distribution and development of northern Ningxia today, which also effect the Shanbei region greatly.
