| Lu Ling is one of the most important writers of Chinese modern literature. As a core member of the July School, whose works were highly appreciated by Hu Feng, he is recognized as the one who had best practiced the literary theory of Hu Feng. In his works, Lu ling consciously followed the Lu Xun Tradition both in literature and spirit. He also made some individual developments. However, this tradition was not inherited after the establishment of the P.R.C.The thesis attempts to analyze Lu Ling’s works during the year1938to1955through the perspective of Lu Xun Tradition under several topics. In Chapter1, we will see how those writers faced the national suffering and wrote down their observations to the lower class of the society. Lu Ling inherited Lu Xun’s consideration to "the insulted and the humiliated". He deeply discovered "the spiritual enslavement injury" and recorded the psychology of "people of the tyrant" which was invented by Lu Xun. He also embraced great sympathy to those who were poor both physically and mentally. The next chapter will analyze the self-observations of the intellectuals. Being the enlighten generation himself, who "has no way to go after waking up", Lu Ling struggled with self, representing Hu Feng’s "subjective combating spirit". His works drew a picture of the young generation’s spiritual struggle.Chapter3will explain the writers’different solutions to the dilemma of the nation and the time. Lu ling, in his works, showed Lu Xun’s theme of "Spectator" and "Revenge" in a profane way. He also accomplished Lu Xun’s appeal to the "Power of Mora" by looking for the "primitive power of life".In the ending part, we can have a look at how this tradition deviated and finally broke down. |
