A Study On The Bilingual Phenomenon Of Naxi People In

There are about22ethnics live in Lijiang. Except Han, the proportion of Naxi isthe biggest in Gucheng region. Lijiang is the local economic and cultural center sincethe ancient times, The long-term’s multi-ethnic living pattern is bound to bring themutual influence, especially in language influence. Naxi nationality lived in amulti-ethnic areas, and it has an intimate association with other nationalities. It’s verycommon to see a Naxi communicate with other people in other nationalities’languages. In their relations with neighboring nationalities, Naxi language has aConstant change and development under the influence of other languages. As Hannationality is the most advanced nationality in China, one of the biggest influence onNaxi language must be Chinese.This thesis is a study in language contact and bilingualism of Naxi nationalitywhich lives in Gucheng region, Lijiang City. It uses a method of systematic analysiswith document Literature investigation to figure out the Naxi language’s influenceand changes caused in language contact with Chinese. This thesis choose two surveyspots to get first-hand information from field investigation, they are Yuhe Village andLijiang Dayan Middle School. And with these informations, we can analyse the status,causes and language relations of the bilingual language phenomenon; moreover, wecan also analyse the development of the bilingual phenomenon. Based on the surverythat Naxi language’s using ability problem, we also proposed some practicalmeasures.This thesis points out that bilingual phenomenon is caused by national contact,people can use other nationalities’ languages when they use their native language.Language change which caused by language contact always brought the state ifmutual replenishment and mutual competition. Mutual replenishment can expands thequantity of the language; however, mutual competition can also make one of thelanguage’s appliacation range became narrow. Sometime it will leads to a language’sdecline or disappear.The development of economy promotes the national exchanges, and at the same time it also promoted the language contact. According to author’s field investigationin Yuhe Village and Lijiang Dayan Middle School, it is obvious that the declension ofNaxi language is inevitable especially in the adolescent society. Language is thewealth of human civilization and mother tongue is a symbolism of a nationality. Inthe last section of this thesis I brought up relevant strategies and specific measures toprotect Naxi language.Research on the language contact and bilingualism of Naxi nationality whichlives in Gucheng region, Lijiang City is the innovation of this paper. Most of theresearch in Naxi language are focus on the remote areas which the language wasprotected well. My work on this paper put the survey point on the district which hugeinfluenced by the han nationality culture. This work means a lot to the ethniclanguages’ protection.
