As an excellent representative poet of Late Tang Dynasty, Li Shangyin’s poetry filled with conception or image of unique style is sincere and touching as his own unique poetic aesthetic characteristics. Li Shangyin was one of the great poet and the most rich artistic originality in the history of Chinese poetry, he dedicated his lifetime energy to discover and display his emotional life of the mind.The research on Li Shangyin covering hispoetic form, theory, creativity and so on has displayed the depth and breadth of the discussion and research in academic circle in recent years, both the characteristics of the poetic style of Li Shangyin’s overall research work, and many case studies to explore throught certain themes and genres. However, the research and exploration of Li Shangyin’s wme poetry on wine are rare.Poetry on winemeans that everything about wines, winecups and drinking scene during the process of poem-composition,as well as works about the description on the drinking activity, drinking contition or psychological portray of drinking, and it began sincethe period of the Book of Songs and prosperous in Tang Dynasty during which drinking gradually became a kind of fashion. Among more than six hundred poems written by Li Shangyin,over one hundred poems onwine or images related wine, which accounted for one sixth of his oeuvre, but his wine poetry has seldom be researched at all. so, Li Shangyin wine poetry research should be paid more attention. Many obscure poetry of Li Shangyin is difficultto be interpreted, so my research on the poetry on wine of Li might provide a new glance to the inner connection to Li’s ambiguity of poetic aesthetic characteristics. Therefore, this article will focus his poetry on wine on academic research under the circumstance of Li’s lifetime on the basis of previous studies.This dissertation is divided into five parts. The first chapter is about the definition of poetry on wine and its development history, along with Li Shangyin’s different life stages through his wine poetrywriting. The second chapter mainlyexplores the internal and external causes of Li Shangyin’s wine poems form by the view of the social culture and tradition, the poet’s personality preferences and religion and so on. The third chapter classifies and comments Li Shangyin’s wine poems,and explores its significance of the wine in the poetry. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the artistic features of Li Shangyin’s wine poems, special interest in its artistic conception and allusion. The last chapter studies the ideaistic characteristic of drinking spirit as well as its influence on poetry, then summarizes howLi Shangyin applied the wine into the poetry and its evaluation. Li Shangyin’s poetry on wine covers each part of his life such as the affection, friendship, and love, which associated the poet with wine tightly. Alcohol can indulgethe poet into the world of wine which fill his poems with the wine flavor. Therefore, the research on Li Shangyin poetry on wine, is to study and interpret the characteristics of the poet and his poetry deeply in different viewpoint in order to provide a new referenceto the study of classical Chinese literature.
