Angela Carter is a British writer who is famous for her fantasy narrative, and she created nine novels, short stories and some plays, a number of news writing. Burning Your Boats,a collection of her altogether 42 short stories. Most of these stories are adaptation from classic fairy tales and folklore modeled with an adult perspective, showing a rare truth behind the fairy tales, with a strong feminist gothic style and features, also known as the "dark fairy tale ".Therefore, since the advent of Carter’s work in the acclaimed but also highly controversial at that time. And formed a series of research system in the West gradually. Compared to plentiful harvest of the West, the domestic research of Angela Carter was started relatively late. Until 1995, Carter’s short story entering the Chinese perspective first time. Although Carter’s work in the country gradually receive more attention in recent years, but the domestic academic research on Carter’s works was always beyond a small minority. And I will started from statistical analysis of urban image and female psychology changes that commonly used in the stories. And I’ll make interpretation with feminist theory and psychology arguments to find out where the rules and characteristics. In the current domestic study of Carter, the paper is the first study which use "city image" as the theme: the study is based on the analysis of urban imagery and there is no avoiding the body of story or tend to ignore the details. And then towards how the environment heighten reflect the psychological change of women. And I’ll discuss Carter’s feminist attitude by resolve her works, rather than simply use feminist theory as a support. While the study will introduced psychology point instead analyze the image of women literally.There are five chapters in the dissertation. The introduction explains Angela Carter’s life experience and Burning Your Boats which is the text for study, as well as the purpose and significance. Chapter one use the urban imagery as a breakthrough, summarized the city image appeared in most stories, and identify their internal relations. Chapter two contact for female psychological changes in the stories, summarized the performance intent and characteristics of Carter, and further elaborated the relationship between the city and the female that in the text. And depth interpret the relationship between urban image and female psychological, and dig out the interaction between them through the different interpretation of imagery classification. The third chapter contacted Carter’s life experience, depth analysis the impact from her feminist notion to creation, and seek the inherent laws of her using of urban imagery. And the last is the conclusion and concludes of the whole paper.
