As a memeber of The new wave of Japanese film,work of Shuji Terayama can more or less reflect the characteristics of times.Research on his films helps understand Japan’s postwar society and movie industry.Besides, the esthetic significance of his work is immeasurable and should be a gorgeous flower of Japan and the world film history.Though there are many scholars concern in films before and after The new wave of Japanese film,they mainly focus on other more well-known filmmakers such as Oshima nagisa、Yoshishige Yoshida、Masahiro Shinoda and Shohei Imamura.As a director who only made five feature films and has complicated identity, Terayama don’t get enough attention and difficult to find in-depth analysis of his work. They are just simply mentioned by monograph of Japanese movie history and The new wave of Japanese film,or be summarized the main contents of Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets、The Story Of O Continued and Pastoral: To Die in the Country. Althoug The comments around Terayama’s motifs(time 、poetry and mother)of professional critics or amateurs are not lack of in some demestic websites and can partly reflect his style, they are mostly about a single movie or a few feature films and hard to form a fracture trivial comprehensive and professional discussion.Chapter one is an introduction of Terayama’s creation background-The new wave of Japanese film.Special upbringing left a deep imprint on Terayama’s work,the second chapter of this paper tell about his childhood experiences as well as attempt on films and drammas.The singular relationship with his mother caused by the absent of his father, and this theme repeatedly presented in his work. The third chapter analyzes the theme of the films, mainly about how he reviewed the past himself. Introspection、sympathy for the tragedy of human and unture time become the chief clue to his work.The forth chapter analyzes the application of poetry in Terayama’movies,from lines to the combination of plots strongly appeal poetic consideration.The last chapter is the most important, with emphasis on the analysis of structure of scene and sound design.According to introduce and comb Terayama’s growth experience his creation experience,combine with his experimental films、drammas and poems,and analysis movies in system to correct the public’s prejudice and understand his workss better.Meanwhile,by analysis content and form of important films as a topic, hoping to elicit more professional and comprehensive analysis of the text.
