Ryunosuke Akutagawa is a great master of short story in modern Japan and he is the representative writer of shinshicyo(“New Currents of Thought”).To commemorate his literature achievements, the award to encourage new person in pure literary-- "Ryunosuke Akutagawa prize" is named after him.He created many masterpieces, but finally chose to end his own life and literary career at the age of 35 prime time.People have many divergent opinions about the reason why he suicide. but it is no doubt that skepticism is one of the reasons that leading to his death.Because of the special environment, experience and personality factors, Ryunosuke Akutagawa spent his life in constant suspicion and uneasiness. He has always been calmly to look at the surrounding, doubting himrself, others, humanity,and this society. At the same time, influenced by skepticism, he always had opposite emotions such as love and hate, desire and hostility on the same object at the same time, good and evil in human nature, art and the reality,longing for women and fear of women, live and die ect. such contradictory things were always interweaved in his heart.but his fragile character and class limitation made him unable to face so many contradictions in life, and then he sank deeper into doubt and hesitation. Such skepticism tendency is also reflected in his works. This thesis will expound the skepticism tendency of Akutagawa mainly around his four historical novel-- "In a Bamboo Grove", "Hell Screen", "The Nose", "Rashomon". through the analysis of specific works to explore the theme.This article mainly through four chapters to elaborate: The first chapter, first, made a brief introduction of skepticism and the relation between Akutagawa and skepticism.Secondly,concluded Akutagawa’s skepticism tendency reflected in the methods of historical novels creation, the use of narrative techniques and the characteristics of characters in Akutagawa Ryunosuke’s historical novel.The second chapter, this chapter summarized Akutagawa’s skepticism tendency embodied in his work into three categories--suspicion of human nature, society and women, through the analysis of his major works to exounded the specific content of Akutagawa’s skepticism tendency.The third chapter expounded the main reasons that made Akutagawa’s skepticism tendency form.The first reason is his life experiences.Influenced by his mother’s mental disease and lived in the circumstances around the birth parents, adoptive parents, aunt,making his childhood unfortunate.The heavy load of life made him too tired to creat literature. Secondly, from the prevailing social conditions, analyzed why Akutagawa suspected of society. Third, from the women who Ryunosuke Akutagawa contacted with, to analyze the reason why he suspected of women.the failure of first love, dissatisfaction of the marriage life and suffered setback in love made Ryunosuke Akutagawa turned to suspect and fear of women.The fourth chapter elaborated what impact has been made on Ryunosuke Akutagawa himself because of his skepticism, It not only led him to the loss of his art, but also made him a paradoxical view of the world and he always treat one thing with two opposite opinions. In such anxiety contradictions, infuenced by his unbearable body, mental conditions and many other factors, ultimately the literary giant chose to suicide.
