| Pauses in interpretation affects the overall quality of interpretation. Improper pause, pause at a wrong segment of a meaning-unit, or just a long silence etc, not only affects the comprehension of the original text on the part of audience, but also causes problems in accuracy. It does undermine the quality of the interpretation and build no confidence to the interpreters. What’s more, it will affect the interpreter’s credibility. This thesis is based on Gile’s effort model which explains why the pause in interpretation is inevitable. Different procedures could lead to the pauses during the interpretation, which are the procedures of information in-put, preprocessing and producing. In other words, they are the procedures of listening comprehension, note-taking and the translation between source language and target language. Finally, the paper provides strategies and approaches to cope with the problems mentioned before which are how to do language prediction and non-language prediction, how to understand the characteristics of note-taking,and how to use division translation, restructuring translation, and linear translation. |
