| City of Shadows:Sydney Police Photographs is a photo gallery collected and sorted by Peter Doyle and Caleb Williams under the support of the Historic Houses Trust and the Justice & Police Museum in Sydney. They had also co-written several articles that were included in the gallery and from which I chose four articles that cover the sorting process, introduction of the photos and the authors’personal opinions and feelings to translate into Chinese. The source language is accurate, readable and elegant, not only expressive (description of feelings) but also informative (knowledge of photography, forensic science and art). This paper attempts to consider translating as an art making process and to discuss the standards, principles and strategies of translation aesthetics, hoping to represent the beauty of the source language in the target text. |
