Wang guan who has a large of circle of friends and a free and easy individuality is a famous seal cutting in the late of Ming dynasty. He pursues a quaint pure, calm and gentle style, and absorbs the essence of ancient seal information continuously from the Qin and Han dynasties. And then he pushes the seal cutting art aesthetic level to another new level, "seal of Qin and Han dynasties". Wang guan has a high talent and creativity in seal cutting. This makes far-reaching influence to the formation and establishment style at the beginning of the Qing dynasty and creation of modern seal cutting. Comparing with other seal cuttings in the Ming dynasty, Wang guan has a few study researchers. This is what the meaning of this paper topic.This topic has studied the Wang Guan’s native place and life on basis of fully excavating and combing the relevant historical materials and the present research situation, and combed his social condition by combining the acceptor of Wang Guan seal cutting works and data. On this basis, it has combed the circulating situation of Wang Guan yin-pu and the origin of Wang Guan seal cutting, sorted out the relationship between the formation of Wang Guan seal cutting art style and the prevailing of Ming Dynasty’s "collection of ancient Yin Pu", predecessors Wen Peng and contemporary seal carvers. This topic chooses seal in Wang Guan Yin Pu(Shanghai painting and Calligraphy Society Press, 1980 Edition) as the research object, which has been recognized by the academic community, from the angle of seal cutting art theory, it described Wang Guan seal works in detail by dividing it into three types: the Bai Wen yin, Zhu Wen yin and Zhu and white yin. It takes Qin and Han ancient yin and contemporary carvers’ s works as contrast examples, at the same time makes a concrete analysis on the method and form category of Wang Guan seal works by using methods of induction and comparative research, form analysis. Thus revealed the origin and style features of Wang Guan seal cutting art. It also combed the inheritance and innovation of Wang Guan seal cutting edge art, and proved Wang Guan seal in the Ming Dynasty to be the first by looking up relevant literature. Finally, combining with its seal characteristic and successive evaluation, it demonstrated the influence that Wang Guan seal carving art has made on Wang Hong, Shen Shi min, Lin Gao, Wu Xian sheng in Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as Zhao Shi gang, Chen Ju lai and other seal carvers.The artistic characteristics of Wang Guan’s seal cutting are pure, elegant, peaceful and exquisite. And it aims at the traditional seal of Qin and Han Dynasties with it’s solid flavor and elegant sentiment. The main part of artful handwork is the blunt knife, and it’s skillful and calmly steady. The incuse style of Han Dynasty is the part of the white printing. The style is warm and elegant, or simple and steady. The lines are broken and connective, or clear and thin. And they builds the thickness and density changes of printing surface. The other part is formed with the Han Dynasty jade seal and chisel printing method as the references. The style is elegant and smooth, or brisk and neat. The twist of lines is too smooth to show his deep capability fully. The part of Zhu wen printing derives from the Han Dynasty. It’s neatly and flexible, especially the use of stroke intersection makes it become thick with the beauty. The other part learns the seal cutting of Yuan Dynasty, and it use seal script into the seal to show its graceful and beautiful characteristic. The vermilion and white seal derives from personal seals of the Han Dynasty. It has a variety of forms, such as a vermilion with a white, a vermilion with two white, and two white with two vermilion. The works of Wang Guan develop on the basis of the ancient and predecessors’ printings. The reason that Wang Guan can change the habit of people in the Ming Dynasty is that he sticks to the seal art aesthetic of Qin and Han Dynasties. Wang Guan who straighted after Qin and Han Dynasties printed affected the development of Qing Dynasty and the later printing schools. He makes the great contribution on carrying on the "seal of Qin and Han dynasties" aesthetic ideas.Wang Guan also gets a great achievement on the side carving. Wang Guan adopts the two-pole printing method, and the side carving presents quiet and peaceful lingering charm with the atmosphere of the literary. The style of running hand is quick and easy to flow. The official script is solemn and quiet, and the seal character is graceful and beautiful. He is the earliest person to use the seal character. Of course, the art form of his side carving and its unique seal-engraving attainments are inseparable. They make it each other possible, and constructs the artistic peak of "not the ancients before, not after one". This also lays the important position in the history of side carving art.The circulating situation of Wang Guan’s yin-pu is roughly divided into two pulses. One pulse is about 20 tallies edited in the Wan li Jia yin Year which include 61 ancient seals and 400 seals cutting by himself. Another pulse is the book written by Wang Huan zhi that Fu Shi and Wu Hufan gain. It saves the largest number seals, and is the accumulation of Wang Guan’s seal cutting.Wang guan sticks close to the Qin and Han dynasties seal artistic appreciation, warning the contemporary seal experts in seal cutting creation should adhere to the "seal of Qin and Han dynasties" standards. Entering into the traditional is the precondition of the traditional and also is the only rule of learning seal cutting art. Researches on Wang guan seal cutting system to a certain extent can bring new vitality to our current seal cutting creation.
