Tippett, contemporary composer in Britain, have had totally composed four “piano sonatas” in his whole life. First as the research object, this article choosed three harmony as the integral entry point, through the mode tonality, chord structure, harmonic progression and so on to more in-depth analysis and research of work,according to the result of analysis to explore the three piano sonatas harmony language rheological,characteristics and reasons, and Tippett’s music creation what enlightenment to our country.According to Tippett in different periods of style with the corresponding music analysis methods. There are traditional music analysis and modern methods of analysis.In terms of mode tonality, the three piano sonatas are adopted the mode of the classical period type, such as the size of the mode, channel mode, And employing the modern technique, such as integrated mode,polytonality, atonal. In addition, in order to achieve the purpose of tonal expansion, using transitions chords umlauts chords and chords mode alternating chords, which provides a new mode tonality development possible.In the aspect of chord structure, the use of three superimposed chord and the three degrees superimposed chords, these chords in the works have different sound effects, at the same time as the harmonic material provided the impetus for music development.In harmony progression, there are variants of functional harmony and functional harmony with non-functional harmonic in these three ways, in the first three are focused.
