The Power Of Plants: The Application And Analysis Of Living Plants In Artistic Creation

Before the 20 th century, people used living plant to express the real aesthetic temperament and the emotion in the mind for thousands of years. Living plant was widely used in landscape architecture, miniascape(bonsai) and floral arrangement(Ikebana). The Aesthetics law of plants and the method of plants handling were be concluded. All of them were using living plants, but there were something different during design and creating. In fact, the artistic achievement of they were not been regarded as equally important as art(such as painting or sculpture). However, until the last century, because of the communication between different cultures, the developing of art absorbed others experience of different subject areas, and was not be limited in itself. Living plant as a medium was involved in the development of the frontier art. Artists used the plant to express more emotions and thoughts, and works were became more and more varied.In the fist part of this assay, some artistic works about living plant will be introduced in chronological order. And then, I will analyze all of them from three angles. Finally concluded: The trend developing of art toward diversification has become increasingly apparent.
