Into The Tang Dynasty Three Monks Study

The Buddhism was introduced into Chinese in the Eastern Han Dynasty, after development of Wei-Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties, to the Tang Dynasty reached its heyday. The monks from Sanhan actively westward into Tang Dynasty to learn Knowledge of Buddhism, promote development of domestic Buddhism.In Tang Dynasty, Sanhan monks are not afraid of hardship, walk among the famous temples, study from senior monks, show very strong dedication, and exerted an important influence on that time and later ages. Although Previous academia did some research about the Sanhan Monk to Tang Dynasty, but the lack of systematic and comprehensive. The purpose of this paper is to study the reason, basic situation, activity in Tang Dynasty and the cultural exchange role between China and the Korean peninsula of the monks from Gaoli,Baiji and Xinluo, in order to form a more comprehensive understanding of the monk from Gaogouli,Baiji and Xinluo to the Tang Dynasty.The thesis consists of three parts:introduction, text and conclusion. The text is divided into four section of the eleven chapter, is the core of the paper.According to the author, the Sanhan monks to Tang, mainly it’s Buddhism development has met problems, it’s monks and people aspire to Buddhism, government also adopts a positive attitude toward the monk to Tang. Therefore, a large number of Sanhan monks miles by sea and land to Tang. In the Tang Dynasty 289 years,there are many foreign monks traveling to China for dharma, three Sanhan monks can test that more than 170 people, the most among the foreign monks to China. After them into Tang, their footprints all over the great river north and south, from the generation of north region, south to Guangzhou and other coastal areas, west to the pamirs, east to the sea, nowhere does not have Sanhan monks week and travel traces. The main purpose for Sanhan monks into Tang is to seek the dharma, understanding of Buddhist general knowledge, exploring Buddhism doctrine. So after they came to the Tang Dynasty, the main order to study dharma, translate the Buddhist sutras and note them, supplemented by, improve their own level of Buddhism, and committed to the development of domestic buddhism.In order to reduce resistance in Tang, make the road more smoothly, they also occasionally engaged in practicing divination and other social activities, and to act as a messenger in the exchanges between countries, to play its unique role. They also have relations with the Tang Dynasty literatus. That is to say, after the Sanhan monks into Tang, in addition to the main solution, also include other political, social and cultural activities. From the perspective of history, the Sanhan monks that into Tang Dynasty is very important, they are actively seeking to Tang, and is committed to returning the spread of Buddhism, make the Korean Peninsula Buddhism greatly development and finally completes the process of Xinluo, and became the state religion of Xinluo; at the same time, they also injected fresh blood for the Tang Dynasty Buddhist culture, to play a certain role in promoting the development of Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty. In addition, Sanhan monks link Tang Dynasty to the Korean Peninsula,on one hand, they will take Sanhan culture to China, on the other hand, more make the culture of Tang spread advanced to the Korean Peninsula, is important to the communication between the Tang Dynasty and the Korean Peninsula.In short, from a political point of view, Sanhan monks into Tang Dynasty is a mean of communication with the Tang Dynasty, hand Sanhan government sent monks to Tang for the worship of the Buddha, on the other hand it is a diplomacy to the Tang Dynasty, maintained friendly exchanges with the Tang Dynasty in religion coat wrapped. From the angle of culture, the Sanhan monks into the Tang Dynasty not only promoting the development and dissemination of Buddhism, but also provides the conditions for the two cultural reference and fusion, far-reaching impact on the Korean Peninsula and the Central Plains culture exchange. Therefore, systemic research about the monk entering Tang Dynasty, for the understanding of friendly exchanges between China and the Korean Peninsula’s history, has a certain historical significance. And, it can provide the reference for the current Sino Korean relationship, it also has a certain practical significance.The main innovation of this paper lies in:about the way, the number, the geographical activities and activities in Tang Dynasty and so on, To conduct a comprehensive combing for the Sanhan monks’ basic situation, system analysis the reason that Sanhan monks into Tang Dynasty, comprehensively conclude of the role, to make up the ignorance for the previous study to the Sanhan monks. Because of my limited academic ability, on the role of Sanhan monks that is into Tang Dynasty remains to be further.
