A Study Of Quotations In Shanghai Dialects, Colonial Words And Modal Particles

The Kunming dialect belongs to the Middle-Dian dialect of Yunnan dialect of Southwest mandarin, whose word order is S-V-O. The word order and function word is the main approach to reveal its grammatical meaning which gives it much more analyticity. This thesis collected plenty data of Kunming dialect through field work and previous monograph and research results. This thesis will analyze the interjection,onomatopoeia and modal particle with approaches of syntax, semantics and pragmatics. This thesis will draw a synchronic comparison between mandarin and Kunming dialect to highlight the features of Kunming dialect’s interjection,onomatopoeia and modal particle. Meanwhile, this thesis will collect some modal particle of Northern oral works of Ming and Qing dynasty, through descriptive analysis, drawing a diachronic comparison with Kunming Dialect, to infer the evolution process of the modal particle of Kunming Dialect. This thesis is to contribute to the research of Kunming dialect researching.This thesis mainly consists of five parts:Part I. This part will introduce the general situation of Kunming, Kunming dialect of this thesis, the single-word-pronounce system, overview of Kunming dialect researching, the significance of this thesis, research method, corpus source, vocal recorder and instance illustratingPart II. This part will analyze the interjection of Kunming dialect with the approach of syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Then, compare the interjection with mandarin.Finally, analyze the interjection structure features of Kunming dialect.Part III. This part will analyze the onomatopoeia of Kunming dialect. Successively,it will talk about the syntactic function of onomatopoeia, the semantic and pragmatic features, and speech features of Kunming dialect.Part IV.This thesis,from synchronic aspect,will analyze the modal particle of Kunming dialect.Especially the modal particle like“Me(嚜)”,“Lai(唻)”,“Le Ma(了嘛)”and“Gai(改)”will be analyzed respectively from approach of syntactic structure,semantics and pragmatics.This part,from diachronic aspect,will compare the modalparticle between Kunming dialect and Northern dialect;to describe and analyze,the usage of“Me(么)”as modal particle in Northern oral works in Ming and Qing dynasty,the usage of“Ba Me(罢么)”,the usage of“Lai(来)”as modal particle,the usage of“Lai Zhe(来着)”as modal particle.Finally,draw a comparison of modal particle between Kunming dialect and Northern dialect in Ming and Qing dynasty.Part V. This part is the conclusion, summarizing the whole thesis, indicating the innovation, put forward the deletion of this thesis and the future researching direction.
