A Study On The Form Of "Warring States And Horizon"

This paper studies the pivotal construction in The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States(战国纵横家书).Based on the theory of Cognitive Grammar,the pivotal construction in The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States formally falls into two categories,that is the typical pivotal construction formed by the causative verbs playing as V1,and the atypical pivotal constructions formed by yi....wei.This paper is divided into five parts: The first part is the introduction, a brief survey of the grammatical and vocabulary studies of unearthed literature The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States, the definition and the dispute of pivotal construction, and specific research of pivotal construction in the field. The second part is centered around the typical pivotal construction in The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States, which is the focus of this paper. Firstly, it introduces five main pivotal constructions in The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States. Then according to the constitution order of pivotal constructions, it elaborates, in turn, upon the subject, V1 and its modifier as well as connectives, pivotal parts, V2 and its modifier, the object of V2 in the typical pivotal constructions. The third part is about the atypical pivotal construction in The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States, which mainly discusses three kinds of pivotal construction formed by yi....wei structure, yi structure and you/wu structure, and simultaneously emphasizes that neither all yi....wei structures nor all yi structures are pivotal constructions.The fourth part is the difference between the pivotal construction and the related constructions, which mainly deals with the difference between the pivotal construction and the serial verb construction, and the difference between the pivotal construction and the Subject-Predicate as object construction.The fifth part is the conclusion, which sums up the characteristics of the pivotal construction in The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States and makes a comparison with the characteristics of the pivotal construction in Strategies of the Warring States. The paper aims at reflecting the use characteristics of the pivotal construction in the Pre-Qin Period through the analysis of the pivotal construction in The Treatise of Political Strategists in the Warring States, thus making people have a better understanding of the pivotal construction in ancient Chinese.
