After the Opium War, China ushered from the traditional to the modern social transformation. It is difficult to adapt to the actual needs of modern social development. By a comprehensive survey of the history, we find that a modern education system has been incipiently established long before Chinese government’s educational reform in 20th century. The creator of this system is the Western Protestant missionaries who came to China in modern times. After the Opium War, Western imperial powers opened the gateway of our country under the Qing Regime by western arms and developed their missionary route from coastal ports to inland cities. After Christianity was labeled as "Western Invader" Christian missions had to go on an arduous journey from forcedly accepting unequal treaty signed with western imperial powers to national empowerment for seeking their political legitimacy.Running schools was a large part of missionary activities launched by missionaries. Christian education gradually developed, boomed and had made remarkable achievements. The cause of Christian education constituted an important part of modern education and had an important influence on all walks of life in Chinese society. No matter whether missionaries started up schools for purpose of practicing the idea of Christ’s salvation or in need of preaching, they got one step ahead and inaugurated the modern education system in our land in the late Qing Dynasty, which was a fact that cannot be denied. This paper takes University of Shanghai for instance and studies its occupation-led education to analysis and evaluate several practice of occupation-led education based on the literature and framework of sociological study.
