Semantic research is the center of the cognitive linguistics, lexical semantic is dynamic, variability, uncertainty and not restrictive, developping and changing gradually as our understanding of the objective world. Japanese has few inherent verbs, so it’s common that Japanese use one word to empress many meanings. each polysemous word develop around the word chaos meaning of the original root.polysemous verb "yoru" used frequently in Japanese, which can be roughly divided into 20 meanings, such as the meaning of "close", "rely on", "because" and so on, these language expression seemingly has no contact in the Chinese, but all translated into Japanese "yoru", every Japanese learners need to remember this. This study will use the theory of cognitive linguistics to analysis the semantic category and relationship between the meanings.This thesis consists three chapters,There will be introduces the cognitive linguistics, and expounds the purpose and significance of this study in the introduction. The first chapter will deal with the prototype of cognitive linguistics,metaphor and metonymy, image schema theory and so on.In the second chapter there will targete to research the Japanese verbs "yoru", analyzes the homologous verb of polysemy verbs "yoru" individually, summarize its semantic structure, derived the principle and usage characteristics, seeking to polysemy the semantic construction network of verbs "yoru". In addition, the third chapter will attempt to explore the expansion of the meaning and extensive usage when polysemous verbs "yoru" is referred in the preceding paragraph in the compound verbs "yori~" and the consequent "~yoru". I hope to get a better understanding and use of the polysemous verbs "yoru" with the analysis of this thesis.
