This article mainly discusses three generations of ceramists in Nanjing university of the arts. Pan Chunfang is the first generation of scholar and Xu Chengquan is a master craftsman. They are both fostered in new China. Due to obsession to traditional Chinese handicraft culture and strong sense of mission to inherit it, they founded the first crafts studio in Nanjing university of the arts; Represented by Liu Bin, Jiang Yan, and Li Yuhua,the second generation of ceramists were characterized by their contemporariness and unique style. They integrated into the international community by participating exhibitions and studying abroad actively, which influenced the academic art teaching greatly. While represented by and Wang Xin and current studio students, the third generation of ceramists are enriching and developing the modern ceramic art through experiments and innovation of the crossover concepts. They are characterized by diversification, fashionability and so on.The growing experience of three generations ceramists in Nanjing university of the arts shows clearly the contemporary academism’s cultivating way and skeleton on Chinese handicrafts talents, which has typical significance for the national colleges.Combining with the background of each generation and teasing out from aspects of their studying experience, artistic creations, ceramics teaching as well as culture and art exchange, this paper analyzes and concludes their artistic characteristics, teaching ideas, contributions and influences on groupment, apprentice, and humanity levels. This paper is trying to set a model for or make an difference on art teaching in other colleges by probing into the distinctive teaching features and talents cultivating model in Nanjing university of the arts.
