| As a musical instrument that is characteristic of both nationality and the world, dulcimer learns from other’s strong points to offset its weakness in the long history. Dulcimer not only has learned new techniques from other traditional musical instruments, but also has used modern composition techniques to expand its art expressive force. There are numerous dulcimer works in the contemporary society, which include traditional works, adaptations of western works, and works that is the combination of Chinese musical style and the west one. Among these modern dulcimer works, works written by Se Wang is really unique because of the style of “impressionismâ€. This thesis analyzes Se Wang’s two works--- “Meng†and “Yunduanâ€. On the one hand, the style of “impressionism†can be seen from analyze of the works’ musical language and technique of expression. On the other hand, based on performing these two works, we can find the similarities of technique and emotion between performing Impressionism music and Se Wang’s works. In conclusion, the composers and performers can draw inspiration from diversified styles of modern dulcimer works. |
