Chinese and Western culture were dramatic conflicting in the 20th century. The development path of Chinese art can not be completely in accordance with the prior art logic of this period. The most important mission for artists is how to understand the differences between Eastern and Western cultures correctly, and to explore a new development path suited to China’s art.That period of Western art is a booming year, when Western art acquired a great breakthrough and variation in the form of language. At that time, Chinese painting are facing century problems in the form of a language. Times produce their heroes. Lin Fengmian not only introduced Western modernist art trends, cubism and abstract painting, to China, but also proposed the integration of Chinese and Western artistic ideas, which explored the intersection of culture and art in a new situation in China’s development. Obviously, the fusion of Chinese and Western artistic ideas proposed by Lin, is not to ignore the artistic differences between China and the West, nor is it to eliminate the drawing boundaries between traditional realistic style of European painting and traditional Chinese literati freehand. It aimed to combine the modern Western art mimicing the natural way and Chinese art describing the spirit of artistic imagination-based docking, thereby creating both Western modernist art visual characteristics, but also to express the Chinese cultural connotations and emotional artistic style. The fusion of Chinese and western art theory proposed by Lin and his artistic achievements, not only show the model of development of this art concept for the Leap Cultural Differences, and he reached the pinnacle of artistic creation practice this also marks the cultural leap height. In this sense, Lin has become an art symbol across Eastern and Western cultures, which represents conscious and autonomous exploration of cross-cultural fusion of Chinese and Western artistic thought since the 20th century in China.Lin’s art has two main themes:one is painting, realizing the reality of the suffering of China, focusing on humanitarian calling, painting style tends expressionism; on the other hand are mainly Chinese painting, the subject matter are flowers and birds, landscapes, character. The former can be said to be "salvation", and the latter to "Masquerade." But in the creative techniques are figured, it is based on the in shape, color, spatial processing, etc. The western art and traditional Chinese painting combined to achieve "Western reconcile" artistic ideal.From Lin’s life experiences and the development phase of his painting paper, we studied his way fusion of Chinese and Western painting and his language features, ideological content, so as to analyze the influence and significance of Lin on Chinese modern painting nationality.
