| High school students are spending the key time in their life time. In China high school students have much heavier academic pressure than their counterparts in foreign countries. Now the mental health has received a lot of attention from the authority and the public. The academic performance is affected by many factors of which mental health is one. This study aimed to probe the relationships of core self-evaluation, hope,coping style and academic performance. We used questionnaire to investigate 437 high school students and collected their reports of Chinese, math and English. We have conclusions as follows.(1) Male student has higher score in core self-evaluation than female student. Other factors, age, grade and only child do not have significant influence on core self-evaluation.(2) Male student has higher level of hope, agency thoughts and pathways thoughts.The difference of age, grade and only child is not significant.(3) For coping styles, there is gap between male and female. Generally, male students prone to choose positive coping method compared with female students. Age,grade have no influence on coping style. Students from rural area have more possibility to choose rationalization.(4) Hope has mediating effect between coping style and core self-evaluation. Though further investigation, we found that hope, agency thoughts and pathways thoughts are roles of complete intermediary between positive coping styles and core self-evaluation and have partial mediator effects between negative coping styles and core self-evaluation.(5) We did not find the potential model of Chinese, English and total scores. Hope has partial mediator effect between negative coping styles and core self-evaluation.Influence of hope and negative coping style on math performance must via core self-evaluation. |
