With the rapid development of the computer field, the security of database is increasingly important, especially for sensitive data protection requirements. There is a wide range of Database system applications in the social, scientific and other fields. Database systems have many characteristics, including massive data storage, data processing and networking interaction. With the globalization of database applications, there are lots of corresponding security risks in database systems. For example, some sensitive data may be leaked while the external applications of the database accessing the database operating systems. It threatens the security of the database. In order to improve the security of the database, sensitive data are usually encrypted in the database. Thus, even if the data is leaked, the massive leaked data is also encrypted, and it will not cause too much threat to the database security. Database encryption has become very important and many scientific research units are focus on it.There are many ways in encryption of the database, which include the symmetric encryption and asymmetric encryption. These methods are the basic methods of data encryption. While encrypting the database, we must consider not only the security of the encrypted database, but also the database work efficiency and user operability after encryption. So the requirements of the database encryption are higher. There is no database encryption standard in the international community. People usually choose a database encryption method according to the actual situation, so that the field of database encryption is becoming rough-and-tumble. This paper analyzes the current database encryption technologies and we focus on The Format-Preserving Encryption of database (FPE).For example, personal identification information (PII) is very difficult to be encrypted in the database. For the encryption information may change the size and the storage mode of the PII in the database. Can we find a method which can both encrypt data in the database and impact the database as small as possible? As to the above problems, we can use the Format-Preserving Encryption of Database (FPE).FPE is suitable for database encryption. It has the following advantages:(1) There is no need to change the existing database structure. FPE have the characteristic that can keep the data format and length unchanged. The database can use FPE without changing the data format or length.(2) The primary key of the database is not affected by the FPE. FPE can also encrypt the primary key.(3) There is no need to change the existing system. Just add a short code to the existing system which is convenient and quick.In summary, FPE is more suitable for database encryption.In addition, FPE is also suitable for the Internet. Without disrupting the existing network framework, FPE can also encrypt confidential information. Of course, in many other fields, such as the application of smart card terminals, communications, industry, FPE is also used widely.
