Design & Implementation Of The Switch Card & Network Management System Used In Fibre Channel Switch

As people`s requirement to the information grows rapidly,people store more and more files and data on to the internet to share their data with others.And the development of the network application brings more requirement to the storage too.The combination of the storage and network gives birth to the Storage Network.And as a part of the Storage Network,Storage Area Network(SAN) is widely used in many fields. Fibre Channel(FC) is a new technology to build the SAN,it is mainly used in interconnecting work stations,servers and storage devices. Because of FC`s high-speed,low-delay,long-distance connectivity and its topology structure which can cover the advantages of I/O and network, the FC becomes a good choice in building a distributed & multi-protocol local area network. In FC,the fabric topology structure can achieve the best performance ,and the FC switch is the key device in this topology.In this paper,we give out the FC`s developing background,improvements and protocol first,and more,we anyalize the FC switch`s protocol & functions,then we propose our design of the FC switch based on experiences of developing the high speed routers.In our design,it is a 8×8 switch,and each port`s high speed serial data rate is 1.0625Gbps.In this project,my job is to design and realize the switch card and network management system of the FC switch.And in this paper,we give out some experiences in the development including the high speed circuit design and developing real-time software under the VXWORKS. The memory management strategy and procedure`s optimization strategy we used here can improve system`s performance a lot. At last,the results of the experiments and our further developing schemes are presented.
