At present, Internet can't provide enough QoS supports to meet thedemands of streaming media, which leads to the generally unsatisfactoryperformance of media streaming over Internet. So, many studies have beendone on controlling multimedia streams and adapting them to the changingnetworks. The theory achievements include Smoothing algorithms, QualityAdaptation algorithms, Congestion Control algorithms and so on.In the thesis, studies are made mainly on implementing controlalgorithms in media streaming server, namely Clear Server, to enhance itsbehaviors over Internet. And some methods are developed and implemented toenhance its performance.The thesis firstly analyses and solves the problem of implementing WTSalgorithm in Clear Server. The thesis provides the application scheme of WTS,solving some practical problems in the process. Experiments prove theeffectiveness of the application of WTS in the server.After that, the thesis provides a quality adaptation transmission scheme,based on quality adaptation algorithms and taking the architecture of ClearServer into consideration. The realization methods of every part of the schemeare studied and provided. Experiments prove that the scheme is effective inthat it can provide somewhat smooth video service for the clients, by way ofadaptively adjusting the bit-rate and transmission rate of video streams.The thesis also tentatively tackles the problem of integration andcooperation of quality control algorithms in servers. In the end, the thesisprovides and realizes a scheme that enables multimedia streams to get throughNAT. And some considerations are also made on the design and coding ofservers, from the viewpoint of software engineering.
