Design And Building Of The Subject-based Information Gateways For Olympic Games

The Olympic Movement is under the guidance of Olympianism. With the sports activity, it's main activity content is the Olympic Games celebrated once every four years. It is the sports of international community to promote people's physiology, psychology and social morals to develop in an all-round way; promoting the mutual understanding between people from different countries; popularizing Olympianism in the globe; and safeguarding the world peace.Beijing's bidding for the 2008 Olympic Games helps to promote cultural exchange between the East and the West successfully; to promote the mutual understanding of Chinese people and people from other countries; to promote the development of Olympic Movement; to promote development of world economy and trade; to promote reforming and opening and also socialism modernization in China. It can also help the world to understand China more, help China to go to the world faster.Olympic Games intensify sharply in our country, information demand in this area has increased, and it's preparatory work is urgent day by day. How to run-up Olympic Games successfully; how to do the Olympic Games information management well in the whole process of the Olympic Games; how to make the best use of technological advantages of subject-based information gateways(SBIGs) and advanced research results; how to utilize theory and methods in library and information sciences(LIS) and modern information resources management(IRM); how to organizing Olympic Games information effectively; how to develop SBIGs in Olympic Games information to provide information retrieval, information services for Olympic Games, and so on. All these have become main issues we should consider.Under the circumstances, the paper aims at studying the positive roles of information management in running Beijing Olympic Games successfully, namely how to use modern theory in information resources management to serve the whole process of the Olympic Games.The author's thinking of this research is as followings: First of all, she reviews and investigates current research and related studies in Olympic Games in China, resultsshow that research and services in this area in China is quite weak. Secondly, she compares the current situation of sports information at home and abroad, defines and explores functions of information management in Olympic Games. Next, she gives a comparative research on the development of SBIGs in China and other countries, summarizes the development of SBIGs in our country. The author points out that we have a very long way to go to develop SBIGs in China. And then, the author discusses Olympic Games information coverage and information services in SBIGs for Olympic Games. Design of SBIGs for Olympic Games is provided at the end of the paper.Based on the analysis of research in related subjects in Olympic Games, the paper studies current research and related studies in Olympic Games in China; compares development of sports information and development of SBIGs for sports in China and other countries; discusses definition and functions of information management in Olympic Games; explores coverage and organizing methods of information resources in Olympic Games. The author designs a SBIGs for Olympic Games in the end.
