In the past 10 years, the Internet Protocol (IP) have had a tremendous impact to network communications. Although IP has existed for a long time, it associates with other networks and extends other applications in 1990s. Before IP has become the most common communication methods, many network protocols have been developed, such as IBM's SNA, Apple's Appletalk, Novell's Netware, Xerox network systems and other network protocols in Digital Equipment Companies (DEC) and Microsoft. The success of the Internet has made it possible the Internet protocol working as a dominant protocol in today's network, and it would be used to design and build a next generation network protocol.Up to now, wireless networks built follow the standardized protocols and the structure developed by ITU, ETSI, TIA and other organizations are also adopting the Internet model and protocol. In the 1990s, the wireless network has been developed rapidly. Two major wireless technologies, GSM and CDMA, has become a leading application in the field of communications. So far, the built global cellular communications network mainly provides service based on the voice for the business. Because of bandwidth limitations, the data service is limited, and considering the limitations voice quality and capacity in the design of air interfaces, also making the data service performance badly. However, with the evolution to 3G communications networks, packet data has become a major service in the large bandwidth and entirely access to the Internet. The huge progress in wireless communication technologies and demand on Internet access drive the evolution of cellular communications systems to support a packet data service. As 3G wireless network will be look as the expansion of the Internet, we almost certainly think IP work in 3G wireless networks will be very similar to work in the cable Internet. Therefore, the protocol and network structure in global cellular...
