With Chinese economy fast development, China plays a vital role in the world recently. The communication between China and the world becomes more and more frequent in a wide range. Mandarin, the communication tool and culture carrier that lets the foreign country know China, attracts more and more governments, education organizations, corporations and mediums. Mandarin learning becomes popular in the foreign countries. Based on that,we study,design and implement a Pervasive Computing Based Interactive Mandarin e-Learning System to facility the foreign Mandarin learners.Pervasive computing is considered as the next generation of IT technology, and it has a great potential for many next-generation IT applications. Its"any time, any where, and human-centered"feature makes it a perfect technology for interactive mandarin e-learning application. In our research, we synthetically apply the HPC model,LAAD method, speech recognition, tone recognition, soft switch, voice mail technique and the concept of pervasive computing to the interactive mandarin e-learning system design and implementation. The speech recognition technique helps the learners have an accurate mandarin pronunciation. The tone recognition checks their pronunciation tones to make them know whether their tones are correct or wrong as mandarin tone is the most difficult issue confusing foreign learners. Pervasive computing in our system related to soft switch, voice mail, call-center technique is to offer many pervasive services to the foreign learners to facilitate their learning process.During our work, we get the following major achievements:First, we design and implement the whole pervasive computing based interactive mandarin e-learning system.Second, we build a pervasive computing platform to provide pervasive services, this platform can implement the communication between the IP network and PSTN, and it has the function of TTS and voice-mail as well.Third, we study and implement the speech recognition, the tone recognition and the accuracy evaluation components.Forth, we design and implement the Web version of our system.
