That computer technology comes into the printing field makes printing technology achieving digital, providing a guarantee for color management. Since the International Color Consortium (Ab. ICC) comes into existence in 1993, the ICC color management technology has been a large degree of popularity in the printing industry. To a certain degree, it meet the needs of the color conversion. But in recent years, there has been an exponential growth in the demand for high-quality color imaging fueled by: Rapid growth in the digital camera market, the consumer and enterprise color printer market, the development of short-run color reproduction departments within enterprises, and the emergence of high-end imaging. This demand has been met by inconsistent color solutions that are considered inadequate by today's standards. As the demand for high-quality color continues to grow. In the other word the times require color conversion to cross-media, real-time, transparent, automation and intelligent. Currently the ICC color management mechanism is the color conversion under predefined condition. It can not achieve the true cross-media. So it can not meet the current needs of the color conversion.This issue is proposed according to the contemporary requirements of color management application. The paper primary study gamut mapping algorithm, based on the survey of classical algorithm, summarize the various relevant factors to have an impact on the results of the mapping. On the basis of analysis of its impact weight, we establish a best mapping optimization model, then deduce an image-dependent gamut mapping algorithm. In order to provide an experimental platform for new algorithm, we designed a new color conversion mode. The model is improved on the basis of the ICC color management framework. First, in order to adapt to cross-media requirements of color conversion, in the new model we choose color appearance model as Profile Connection Space (Ab. PCS), which is a color perception attribute model used to predict the color appearance under different observation conditions. Papers compared and analyzed the uniformity of color appearance model (CIELAB1976 and CIECAM02) used Munsell data sets, then gave the reason of the use CIECAM02 as PCS. Secondly, to ensure the real-time color conversion in new color management model, we used Image-dependent mapping algorithm, changed the predefined model of the ICC color conversion. The real-time is that color conversion is excused by selecting the appropriate gamut mapping algorithm on the basis of a known source and objectives gamut. Papers proposed an image-dependent gamut mapping algorithm on the basis of an investigation to the classical gamut mapping, named"Image Based Regional Gamut Mapping Arithmetic"(Ab. IBRGMA). To evaluate and test the performance of the new algorithm, compared the new algorithm with the two standard detection algorithm (SGCK and HPMINDE) that the ICC announced in experiment, we confirmed that the new algorithm have greater advantages, which can guarantee that the image appearance conversion is the best in line with human visual.New color conversion mode was developed by used of VC + + 6.0 development platform. We can achieve to read TIFF format images, read device profile, precisely extract image and objectives gamut, converse between the data of color space-related equipment and the CIECAM02 color appearance attribute data, choose gamut mapping algorithm, and so on. The new developed color conversion mode applications equal to a simple color conversion engine (CMM:Color Management Model). This conversion mode achieved the transparency of the color conversion, made the complex problem of the color management simplify, reflected the trend in the development of color management. Certainly, we have a long run to go to achieve the intelligent and automated color management. I believe that will be realized fully in the near future.
