Firstly, the development history of numerical algorithms for incompressible flows and two-phaseflows was introduced briefly in this paper and these algorithms were analyzed about their merits anddemerits. Based on the calculation accuracy and computational efficiency considerations, SIMPLEalgorithm which was based on collocated meshes and finite volume method and VOF method werechosen as the solver of the gas-liquid two-phase flows. A new pressure interpolation scheme wasproposed to overcome the computation difficulty of single-phase flows with gravitational force and ahigh Rayleigh number square cavity natural convection flow has been carried out to examine theaccuracy of this new pressure interpolation scheme. Based on the strengths and weaknesses of severalimportant algorithms, SLIC geometric reconstruction method was adopted to calculate the VOF fluxthrough each cell’s face and two typical examples, advection of a hollowed square and single-vortexshearing flow, have been put forward to verify the SLIC method. The gravitational force weightedpressure interpolation scheme was brought up to obtain the proper pressure gradient in cells aroundthe interface of two-phase flows and several standard cases, such as dam break, Rayleigh-Taylorinstability and so on, were employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of GFW scheme. Finally, several improved research directions were proposed based on the research achievements of this paper.
