Our country is a country with most widely distributed loess in the world. Meanwhile,loess landslide is regarded as one of the most serious geological hazard in loess areas due toits wide distribution, huge scale, complex nature and serious harm, which not only restrictsthe economic construction and development in loess area severely, but also has a certainimpact on the politics and society. The loess landslide along the highway is even affecting thenormal operation and safety of the highway projects, which severely weakened the lifelinerole of lines. Thus, it’s quite necessary to analyze and discuss the failure mechanism of thelandslides and propose appropriate controlling measures through investigation and experimenton the environmental engineering geology of the area along the highway, which not onlymake a useful exploration for perfecting the theoretical study of landslides, but also canprovide a useful reference for practical engineering.YangGuo (K29+200~K39+600) section of No.107provincial road in Guanzhong Linkis taken as relying engineering in this paper. According to the field survey, this paperelaborates the regional environmental geology-background as well as classification andcharacteristics of Quaternary bottom unconformity systematically based on a detailed analysisof the existing geology data. The engineering geological properties of loess and the hipparionred soil in the sliding zone is mainly studied through the analysis of the test results. At thesame time, this paper makes an exploratory summary about loess landslide mechanismincluding along Quaternary bottom unconformity on the base of the landslide characteristicsanalysis and based cause analysis. Scilicet, the mechanism of rainfall-induced landslides, themechanism of alternating wet and dry as well as freezing causes landslides, the mechanism ofbreaking the slope’s force balance influence landslides. This paper also puts forwardcorresponding prevention measures including intercepting and drainage engineering, reducingload and backpressure engineering and anti-sliding retaining engineering and attaches greatimportance to the monitoring and prediction of landslides. Finally, FLAC3Dnumericalanalysis method is adopted in the paper to analyze the stress, strain and displacement oflandslide under nature and rainfall condition respectively.In this paper, it is obtained correct validation in the numerical simulation which thelandslide mechanism comes from the analysis of landslides characteristics. It not only hasimportant reference value for the research and prevention of this type landslides, but also is anew attempt to expand the research perspective of loess landslides.
