In recent years, the corona discharge plasma plays a huge role in high-tech industry.Especially in the application of electrostatic dust removal, sterilization, materials processing,surface modification and so on, it has lots of advantages. Whether the corona discharge cangenerate high density plasma is the major problem affecting its application efficiency, is alsoone research topic by many scholars.For this, through the experimental study of DC corona discharge of the needle-plateelectrode with different parameters, the relationship of electron density, thickness of coronalayer, vibration temperature and corona voltage were got. Therefore, this article useshomemade needle-plate discharge device to do the experiment of corona discharge in theatmosphere. The process of needle-plate corona discharge and volt-ampere characteristiccurve are analyzed. By using the method of reading glowing photos, luminous intensity andthe corona layer thickness of corona discharge are studied. The relationship of the dischargepower and spectral intensity is known by analyzing emission spectra of corona discharge andvibration temperature of N2(C3u)molecules are researched by analyzing the emissionspectrum lines of the N2second positive band system N (C332u B g).The experimentalresults show that the thickness of corona layer grows rapidly after dizzy voltage, there will bea region. When the voltage continues to increase, thickness of corona layer develops fromstraight to upward.Luminous intensity and the discharge voltage is a linear relationship. Thenearer to the tip, the larger luminous intensity is, which is the linear correlation coefficient.The337.1nm spectral line intensity of N (C3B32u g)by measuring emissionspectrum increases linearly with discharge voltage as well. The ratio of Spectral intensity andthe discharge power will be a great value with increasing of the discharge voltage. Thevibration temperature of N2increases and then reduces with the increase of discharge voltage.And the corona layer of corona discharge and radiation spectrum are discussed with theneedle tip radius and the space of needle and plate.Corona discharge experiment was studied for the application of water absorbing resin.The relationship of the swelling rate of water absorption resin under different parameters wasdiscussed. Cellulose solution was put into homemade plasma generator. DC power supplysupports the discharge of420V-700V. Resin was got after10mins’ discharge. Then the resin was mashed and put in distilled water. The products were under the65-70℃to dry into superwater absorption. When the discharge voltage is570V, swelling rate of water absorption resinis the biggest. When the pH is between6and9, polymer is in the presence of large amountsof-COO-and-COOH groups, resin swelling changes slowly.Through the experimental study of DC corona discharge of the needle-plate electrodewith different parameters, the relationship of electron density, thickness of corona layer,vibration temperature and corona voltage were got. At the same time, the preparation ofabsorbent resin was studied. This work also has a positive practical significance to promotequality of the atmosphere and water.
