Geographic national condition census is an important means of access to national condition and national power and is the basic work to master the basic natural resources, ecological environment and human activities. Based on application of geographic national conditions census, land cover classification system for geographic national condition census of high resolution remote sensing image interpretation methods are researched, land cover interpretation process and software are developed for geographic national condition census and the main work is as following:(1) MPI technique has been introduced and multi-scale parallel segmentation techniques have been reached to improve the efficiency of image segmentation, which the speed in16courses is over8times in single course; DLG data-aided segmentation has been reached to restrict segmentation boundary.(2) A classification strategy of "hierarchical" has explored. Spectral, shape, texture and context features of objects have been considered in an integrative way. In accordance with the easier issues first" principle, object oriented Classification algorithms have been studied and the method including decision tree and SVM have been applied.(3) In view of characteristics of geographic national condition census and the problem of poor accuracy of image interpretation, heavy work load after interpreting, a land cover interpretation procedures have been developed. Interpretations of WorldView-2image in Lintong area has finished, and the result accuracy reaches over81%, to verify the feasibility of land cover interpretation procedures.
