Three-dimensional (3D) display, especially holographic3D display, increasinglyattracts people’s attention for its stereo perception and immersive feeling.Computer-generated holography (CGH) has become the perfect solution for it is flexible, with high efficiency, easy in storage and transmission. Since a CGH containsredundancy, the computation process becomes complex and time consuming. Largestorage space results in difficulty in transmission and display. In this paper, display and storage of CGH were studied from theoretical research, numerical simulation and optical experiments. By using of parallel algorithms anddiscrete cosine transform (DCT), acceleration of CGH and compression of theinformation content were achieved respectively. The main contents can be divided into six parts. First I introduced several3Ddisplay technologies and the research status and developmental direction of CGH. InChapter2, classification of2D holography and optical experimental platform wereshowed. Numerical and optical reconstructions of tomography and Fresnel holographywere given. Besides, huge information content and zero-order spot made the storagedifficult and the original image blurred. In Chapter3, DCT was used to solve it. Finally,64.8%of the information content was removed, and the storage space was reduced.Chapter4conducted an investigation about algorithms generating the CGH of3Dobjects. Coherent ray tracing was chosen. Numerical and optical reconstructions of four3D objects were given. In Chapter5, parallel algorithms, including GPUmat, GPUArrayand Parfor in MATLAB were used to make the computation faster. Numericalsimulation results showed that, with the parallel optimization, the computation timecould save up to97.6%, and the speed had40fold increase. Both of the numerical and optical reconstructions proved that, parallel computingcould greatly reduce the computation time, and DCT could effectively remove theredundant information content. Finally, in Chapter6I summarized the main contents, and presented some ideas about the future research directions.
